Urgent : ETUC call to vote in favour of the EMPL report on the proposal of Platform Work Directive

Dear MEPs,

The mandate of the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs on the proposal for a Directive on improving working conditions in platform work has been challenged by a group of MEPs and it will therefore be subject to vote in the plenary on Thursday.

ETUC supports this report because it ensures legislation which grants workers their rights while providing for fair competition and protecting the entrepreneurial freedoms of the self-employed. The Directive will never lead to an automatic reclassification of workers in platform companies. It will only prevent platforms from using bogus self-employment.

We are well aware of the consequences of a vote against the report: A drawback in all three objectives above-mentioned and maintaining the current status-quo for the sole benefit of big digital labour platforms which are avoiding rules and rights for workers. We call you on to vote in favour of this report on Thursday.

Workers and self employed cannot wait any longer to be protected against the almighty power of platform companies. We call on you to vote in favour of this report tomorrow.

Yours truly,
