Letter of solidarity of the ETUC towards Spanish people and trade unions following the tragic floods

Dear brothers and sisters,

The European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) expresses our deepest condolences and our full solidarity to Spanish people and trade unions following the tragic floods in Spain.

We join with Spanish trade unions in mourning the victims.

Our thoughts are with the victims’ families and loved ones and with the communities of the territories affected by this tragedy.

We salute the extraordinary efforts being made by emergency services and public services in assisting the affected population and alleviating the consequences of the disaster.
This tragedy has demonstrated – once more – the paramount importance of public and emergency services.

We remain steadfast in our trade union solidarity and commitment to work to prevent deaths from these events.
This terrible tragedy confirms once more the need to address climate change, to oppose far-right narratives denying climate change, and to ensure that society is fully prepared to deal with extreme climate events.

In full solidarity,

Esther Lynch,
General Secretary of the European Trade Union Confederation
