Georgian trade unions have today joined the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC), a move which will help raise labour standards to the required levels for accession to the EU.The ETUC’s executive committee voted unanimously in favour of membership for the Georgian Trade Unions Confederation (GTUC), which is made up of 20 trade unions representing 156,000 workers in every sector of the economy.The GTUC plays a leading role in Georgia in the fight for democracy as well as workers’ rights and decent living standards.

A warm thank you for inviting me to this important anniversary in the history of OPZZ.
I take this opportunity to extend to you the congratulations of the whole ETUC.
OPZZ is an important member of the ETUC, and the European movement has benefited enormously from the input of your trade union.
Since Poland joined the European Union, you have made sure that the voice of workers from Central and Eastern European member states was well heard in the trade union movement.
The European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) condemns the terrorist attacks that took place on Thursday, 17 August, on La Rambla de Barcelona - one of the most popular and visited streets in Europe at this year time – and in Cambrils.
We express our solidarity to the victims and relatives, people of Barcelona and Spain as well as our Spanish trade union members.
The ETUC stands with all workers of security forces, transport, social and health services which have attended to the victims of these cruel attacks with professionalism and care.
Two years after its last congress, and two years before the next one, the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) is holding its Mid-Term Conference in Rome in May. The conference will focus on Europe for working people - the future the European trade union movement wants to build for European workers and their families.
