In response to a European Commission consultation on the quality of traineeships in the EU, the ETUC pointed to the need for European-level standards, and for the social partners to be consulted and involved at every stage. Traineeship schemes need improvement in terms of outcomes, working conditions and labour protection.
The ETUC rejects the practice of unpaid ‘work experience’ and internships that fail to offer young people useful experience, career prospects, or the opportunity to live in dignity with fair remuneration.
