A coalition of trade union, business and environmental leaders has called on the UK government urgently to implement the measures agreed at the United Nations COP26 climate summit in November.
A letter to government leaders, signed by Trades Union Congress General Secretary Frances O’Grady together with the Director-General of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) and green organisations, warns that existing climate policies are not sufficient to meet targets.
The policies it proposes include partnerships with businesses and trade unions in high carbon sectors to establish just transition plans to give companies, workers and communities protection from the impacts of decarbonisation: support for greener business models and future-proofing jobs through technological advances; and increased public investment for climate action.
