French care provider Korian has reached a deal with trade unions on setting up a European Works Council. It will be the first EWC in the sector of care for the elderly and people with disabilities.
The groundbreaking agreement comes after months of negotiations and opens the way for further deals in this growing sector. Korian is a major player in social care with over 52,000 workers in six European countries.
The EWC offers a forum for discussions between elected workers’ representatives and management on key issues facing company employees. “With this agreement to set up a European Works Council we are taking an important step to improve information and consultation rights in Korian,” said Jan Willem Goudriaan, General Secretary of the European Federation of Public Services Unions. “It will contribute to improving working conditions that are crucial for delivering quality care.”
