European Parliament draft report recommends measures that will lead to social dumping

Brussels, 12/11/2012

Veronica Nilsson, ETUC Confederal Secretary, said: “For many years the ETUC has been denouncing the frequent violations of labour laws and the exploitation and maltreatment of posted workers. Regular scandals such as the recent Flamanville case show that the current EU framework does not sufficiently protect this very vulnerable category of workers against exploitation nor honest companies from unfair competition. The report shows a lack of understanding of the situation of posted workers. We urge all Members of the European Parliament to reject the report and reflect on how to combat exploitation and social dumping at EU level and to initiate meaningful dialogue with trade unions and labour inspectors in order to find sustainable solutions”.

Danuta Jazłowiecka, EPP Rapporteur for the Employment and Social Affairs Committee, published her draft report last week on the Enforcement Directive, which aims at improving the enforcement of the current Posting of Workers Directive. The draft report will now be debated in the Employment and Social Affairs Committee.
