The European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) supports French trade unions in their protests on 17 December.
The ETUC invites the French Government to consult, and take into account, the proposals of the French unions.
The French unions are unanimous in opposing any increase in the pension age and cuts in pension levels.
ETUC General Secretary Luca Visentini said “The ETUC fully supports the French unions in their huge protests today. Cuts in workers’ pension rights and increased working age, without taking into account very stressful or physically demanding jobs, are problems across Europe. The French unions and workers are right to defend their interests and are sending a signal to Governments across Europe that workers’ pension rights cannot be discarded.”
